Natalie Hansel, MSN, RN, CNL and Ethan Neily, BSN, RN. Violence against healthcare workers is on the rise in all care settings, including non-psychiatric inpatient care units. In 2019, the 1 East Medical Specialties Practice Area Council began a process improvement project to evaluate best practices and opportunities to support patients, families and staff through behavioral emergencies on their unit. After researching the literature, surveying staff, and utilizing measurement tools to understand violence prevention and response needs, the project team designed a Disruptive Patient Code Team (DPCT). This presentation will review current trends, project findings and highlight next steps in implementing a DPCT at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
