Ostomy Care for Nursing and the Ostomate
From Judith Langhans
Laura Goudreau, BSN, CWON
Ostomy Nurse Clinician, DHMC
In this presentation, we will review the different types of fecal and urinary diversions, basic ostomy care, common ostomy accessories, and the impact nursing staff can have on a patient’s coping and acceptance of their new ostomy. Participants will come away with a greater understanding of ostomy care and how to troubleshoot common skin and pouching issues. Join the conversation to learn how to build clinician confidence and in turn the ostomate’s confidence with their care.
At the conclusion of this learning activity, (at least 75% of) participants will be able to confidently compare and contrast the different types of fecal and urinary diversions including function and proper use of accessories.
