Emmett LeBlanc, Program Manager for the Transgender Health Program, for an
overview of terminology related to gender and sexuality. This includes terms
such as gender identity, sexual orientation, gender expression, sex assigned at
birth, affirmed name, etc. Emmett will guide you in applying these concepts to
patient-centered care. He will walk you through entering Sexual Orientation
& Gender Identity (SOGI) information into the patient’s record as well as
ways to identify a patient’s affirmed name and pronouns within the Epic
electronic records system.
Learning Outcome:
At the conclusion of this learning activity, (at least 75% of) participants will be able to discuss the use of appropriate terminology related to gender and sexuality when ensuring a patient centered approach to care.
