Hello APP Colleagues,
On Monday April 21, 2025, we welcomed Sydney Hanford, MPAS, PA-C to Topics in Medicine and Surgery for her talk entitled: The Science, Pain, and Practice of Chemical Pleurodesis in the Treatment of Spontaneous Pneumothorax. Sydney is a resident in the APP CT Surgery program.
Sydney earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology degree from UMass Lowell, and went on to work in cardiac rehabilitation, while also obtaining an EMT license—a balancing act that she kept up during the height of COVID-19. She then attended Franklin Pierce University’s physician assistant program where she had the pleasure of training alongside her amazing co-resident, Sara Gussenhoven, MPAS, PA-C. A passion for cardiothoracic surgery began during that time, not only through clinical experience but also through a personal lens, after her father experienced multiple heart attacks and ultimately underwent open heart surgery during her first year of PA school.
