On Monday, November 4, 2024, we welcomed Stacy Sorrell, Stacy
Sorrell, DNP, APRN, PMHCNS-BC – APRN Psychiatry II, Dartmouth Health at New
Hampshire Hospital, Concord, NH to discuss Mental Health and the Legal
System.
Stacy received a Bachelor
of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1994 and a
Master of Science in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from the University of
Massachusetts Lowell in 1998. After completing the additional supervised
clinical experience guided by clinical experts in Psychiatry, Psychology, and
Advanced Nursing Practice, she earned ANCC certification as a Psychiatric
Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist in 1999 and has been licensed as an
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire since
1999. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of New
Hampshire, completing degree requirements with a comprehensive quality
improvement project to improve provider education regarding the Revocation of
Conditional Discharge Process in the State of New Hampshire (2020).
Dr. Sorrell has 30 years
of clinical experience in psychiatric-mental health nursing in the state of New
Hampshire. She has worked at New Hampshire Hospital (NHH) as an Attending
Provider on an acute admissions unit for 8 years; serving as appointed Co-Chair
of the Utilization Management Committee and as an active member of additional
work-groups and committees. She had an instrumental role in expanding services
in the Lakes Region for patients and families impacted by psychiatric/mental
health issues, including working with hospital and community leaders to develop
policies and procedures that met or exceeded standards and providing education
to support highly knowledgeable and effective teams providing care across the
continuum and eventually assisting in the successful opening of the Franklin
DRF. She has served on numerous regional and state-wide committees focused on
meeting the needs of psychiatric patients and working through challenges within
the mental health system. She was honored in the recent past to receive the
Helen Holbrook Award for Leadership in strengthening services for mental health
care and was recently recognized as a NP Leader by Dartmouth Hitchcock
colleagues for her leadership and education across the state regarding
involuntary processes of psychiatric care in the state of New Hampshire.
